NJMTA Member Programs
SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM - NJMTA established the New Jersey Motor Truck Association Fund Scholarship to assist the children of New Jersey employees of NJMTA members who seek to pursue a college education at an accredited two-year or four-year college or university or at an accredited vocational/technical institution. Scholarships are made on academic potential, financial need and unusual circumstances without reference to race, creed, gender, disability, religion or national origin. Every year NJMTA awards three $1,000 scholarships to children of NJMTA members. Applications are made available in February.
TRUCK DRIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS - The NJ Truck Driving Championships is a competition for professional truck drivers hosted each year by the NJMTA. This competition has a long history – New Jersey has been holding the championships for over 65 years. During the TDC, each driver has a chance to demonstrate his or her driving and inspection skills, knowledge, and professionalism through a series of tests. The drivers undergo a written examination, pre-trip inspection test and finally, the most visible - the skills test. These annual competitions inspire tens of thousands of drivers to operate accident-free for the right to compete. The Championships are a great incentive for professional truck drivers to operate safely because they must be accident-free for at least one year prior to the competition. Many of the competitors have millions of accident-free driving miles to their credit.
SAFETY AWARDS - NJMTA awards our members commitment to safety with our Fleet Safety, Driver of the Year and Highway Hero Awards. We encourage all members to participate in these award programs.
· Highway Hero Award - NJMTA wants to recognize and honor the many professional truck drivers - unsung heroes - who have acted selflessly for the good of others during the workday.
· Driver of the Year Award - This award is to honor, recognize and pay tribute to a professional driver displaying the highest degree of professionalism, safety and courtesy in performing their job and representing the trucking industry. The driver of the year is someone who operates in a safe manner on the public highways, has helped to enhance the public image of the trucking industry, and has made positive contributions to the community in which they live.
· Fleet Safety Awards - The Fleet Safety Awards are an annual recognition for carriers operating in the State of New Jersey with the best safety record in its class. This is an opportunity to reward the professional efforts of our trucking members who help to make our state’s highways safe. This competition stresses the importance of safety, recognizes professionalism, and focuses on principles behind safe driving.
EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS - Through our annual forums and other meetings NJMTA strives to provide members with regulatory updates and timely education and insight to our ever-changing industry regulations. We work with the NJ State Police, FMCSA, NJDEP, NJMVC and others to keep members informed.
