Yesterday NJ Treasurer Elizabeth Maher Muoio announced a 4.2 cents per gallon increase in the NJ Petroleum Products Gross Receipts Tax effective January 1, 2026.
The NJ PGRT is adjusted every year to ensure enough revenue is generated to fund the Transportation Trust Fund's annual capital program. In 2025 the TTF Capital Program was $2.032 billion. For 2026 it will be $2.115 billion. When fuel volume falls against the legislatively fixed budget the NJ PGRT is adjusted upwards and the converse when fuel volume increases. The TTF authorization expires in 2029 when its capital program budget will be $2.366 billion.
